Arachon T.FX.T

Mittelburgenland, Burgenland

ARACHON T.FX.T is Austria’s premier joint venture.

Three acclaimed Austrian Winemaking Friends from three different wine producing regions in Austria came together: Tibor Szemes, FX Pichler and Manfred Tement joined forces in the mid-90s. Bonded by a deep friendship, they had the vision of a great Austrian red wine into which all their experience would flow.

The goal was no less than to create a large Austrian premium red wine in an exportable quantity that reflects the entire potential of the best locations in Burgenland in order to make “red wine made in Austria” known worldwide. A novelty at this time in Austria.

Organic Vineyard Management

Vineyards

The chosen name for the wine was ARACHON T.FX.T (pronounced Arra-Khon) which was the old name of the winegrowing town of Horitschon around 1540. Horitschon is located in the heart of Central Burgenland, where the grapes for the two wines Arachon T.FX.T and A'Kira T.FX.T come from. Central Burgenland is a classic red wine region. Viticulture has been practiced here for centuries. The major vineyards from which the vine are planted on are Hochäcker, Kirchholz, Dürrau, Hochberg Sonnensteig, Bodigraben

Winemaking

The highest quality grapes come from vineyards up to 65 years old of mica slate, clay & loess soils. Barren slate soils give the wines elegance and freshness. Deeper, heavy clay and loess soils provide strength and complexity.

ARACHON T.FX.T is a blend of the indigenous Blaufränkisch, with Merlot, Zweigelt and Cabernet Sauvignon, while A'kira T.FX.T is a 100% Blaufränkisch

Tibor Szemes

Tibor Szemes from Pinkafeld in Burgenland had dedicated his business to red wine. The main focus of the Szemes family has always been on the Blaufränkisch grape variety, which is indigenous to Burgenland. Tibor Szemes was one of the greatest supporters of Austrian red wine. The quality of his wines, his industriousness and his contacts all over the world made Austrian red wine known beyond the borders.

FX Pichler

A white wine legend during his lifetime – has his business in Oberloiben, Lower Austria. His Wachau wines made from Grüner Veltliner and Riesling enjoy a worldwide reputation.

Manfred Tement

No one shaped Styrian white wine more than him. The rapid rise of Styrian wine is largely thanks to him. From an “insider tip” in the early 1990s, the family worked its way to the top in the world within just 30 years. Their Sauvignon Blanc and Morillon wines are among the best in the world.
